Shading
Course Information
This course provides guidance on how the geometry of the building and its integrated shading devices or neighboring buildings or topography will impact on the solar shading of the building.
Within the VE, you can choose to apply this shading to the building simulation to evaluate the impact of solar gains on the building energy and loads and on occupant comfort, as an integral part of the design process.
The first series of lessons will take you step by step through how to generate different images and run shading calculations in the VE, with integrated tests and tasks to follow along.
You will learn how to:
- Generate different types of shading and solar energy / solar exposure images
- Run and evaluate solar shading calculations
- Apply solar shading calculations to the dynamic simulation when it is run
- View the simulation results to assess the impact of shading in more detail
The following lessons demonstrate:
- Different ways to model shading devices
- Different profiles for controlling shading devices are assigned as part of a glazed construction
- Comparing simulation results, with and without shading devices
Why Choose the SHADING Course?
-
In-Depth Understanding of Solar Shading Impact
This course provides comprehensive guidance on how the geometry of a building, its integrated shading devices, neighboring structures, or topography can impact solar shading. Participants will gain an in-depth understanding of how solar gains influence building energy consumption, loads, and occupant comfort.
-
Partial Application in Design Process
Within the Virtual Environment (VE), participants can choose to apply shading to building simulations, integrating solar shading as a crucial aspect of the design process. This practical application ensures that solar shading considerations are seamlessly woven into the overall building performance analysis.
-
Step-by-Step Shading Calculations
The first series of lessons take participants step by step through the process of generating different images and running shading calculations within the VE. Integrated tests and tasks provide a hands-on learning experience, ensuring participants can apply shading concepts effectively.
-
Versatile Shading Techniques
Participants will learn how to generate various types of shading and solar energy/exposure images. This versatility is important for addressing different design scenarios and optimizing shading strategies based on specific project requirements.
